Ivonne Arellano, MD

Ivonne Arellano, MD

Dr. Arellano graduated from the medical school of the Universidad La Salle in 1985 and performed her residency at the Hospital General de Mexico until 1990. She then specialized in Cutaneous Oncology before becoming Professor of Dermatology at the Facultad Mexicana de Medicina, Universidad La Salle, a post that she still holds. Dr. Arellano also acts as Coordinator of the Dermatologic Surgery Department at the Hospital General de Mexico in Mexico City, and she runs a private practice at the Hospital Dalinde.

Dr. Arellano is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the International Society of Dermatologic Surgery, as well as the Sociedad Mexicana de Dermatologia, Sociedad Mexicana de Cirugia Dermatologica y Oncologica and Sociedad Medica del Hospital General de Mexico. She holds positions on the editorial board of Dermatologma Midica, Cosmitica y Quirzrgica, and acts as an article revisor for Revista Medica Hospital General de Mexico.

Dr. Arellano has given over 150 lectures in national and international dermatological courses and congresses. Her research interests include cutaneous oncology and surgery, pigmentary disorders in Hispanic populations, and dermatological disease in immunosuppressed patients.

Rajesh Balkrishnan, PhD

Rajesh Balkrishnan, PhD Dr. Balkrishnan is the Merrell Dow Professor of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research at the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, with a primary appointment within the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration. He also holds joint appointments as Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine and the Division of Health Services, Management, and Policy, School of Public Health.

David M Duffy, MD, FAAD A graduate of UCLA with board certification in dermatology, Dr Duffy is an internationally recognized author and lecturer with particular expertise on the injection treatment of varicose telangiectasia. Dr. Eastern is active in many dermatological societies, and he is President of the Dermatological Society of New Jersey. Dr. Emmet completed his medical program at Boston University in 1968, and, after a 1-year rotating internship at Framingham Union Hospital, served as a dermatologist in the Army for 2 years, including 1 year in Vietnam. After completing his residency at New York University in 1974, he opened a small non cosmetic dermatology practice in San Diego, and has since become Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Emmet has had his articles and photos used by the Tamron Lens Company and the International Travel News, and has lectured widely around the world on subjects including the storage, retrieval and treatment of digital photos.

Hiva Fassihi, MA, MB, BChir Dr. Fassihi is a dermatology resident within the Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Trust in London. After qualifying in medicine at the University of Cambridge, she trained as a research fellow at the Genetic Skin Disease Group at St. John's Institute of Dermatology and the Fetal Medicine Unit within the Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Trust.

Joel M. Gelfand, MD

Joel M. Gelfand, MD Dr. Gelfand is Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Associate Scholar, Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Pennsylvania, and Medical Director of the Clinical Studies Unit in the Department of Dermatology. He is a board-certified dermatologist whose clinical work focuses on general dermatology and psoriasis. His research focuses on clinical trials and epidemiology. His clinical trials research is aimed at improving trial efficiency through the development and validation of surrogate endpoints and the use of efficient statistical designs. He has designed and conducted clinical trials to evaluate novel therapies for psoriasis, hidradenitis, and cutaneous T cell lymphoma. Dr. Gelfand’s epidemiologic research focuses on the natural history of diseases associated with psoriasis. He has published extensively on the epidemiology of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, the impact of psoriasis on health-related quality of life, and the risk of various comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, lymphoma, and myocardial infarction associated with psoriasis.

Barry Ginsburg, MD

Barry Ginsburg, MD Dr. Ginsburg is Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at University of Alabama. He performs general and cosmetic surgery including Botox, laser liposuction and Moh’s surgery. He also teaches medical students from University of Alabama as well as residents from the local training programs. Michael Girardi, MD

He directs a National Cancer Institute-funded laboratory that has contributed to the understanding of the role of gamma/delta T cells in cancer immunosurveillance, alpha/beta T cells in cancer progression, and the NKG2D-ligand system in tumor immunoevasion. He has authored and/or co-authored 18 textbooks on dermatology, sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, cutaneous laser surgery, cellulite and dermatologic surgery as well as over 250 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters. Dr. Goldman is a recent recipient of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery's 21st Century Achievement Award. 

Ken Gordon, MD

Dr. Gordon is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Dermatology at Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. He is also the Director of the Chicago Psoriasis Center at Loyola University. Dr. Gordon received his medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard University, a clinical residency in dermatology at Northwestern University Medical School in the Department of Dermatology, and a postdoctoral fellowship in immunology at Northwestern University in the Department of Microbiology/Immunology.

Dr. Gordon’s chief clinical interest is psoriasis, and his research focuses on the immunological aspects of psoriasis.

Mario E Lacouture, MD

Mario E Lacouture, MD Dr Lacouture is a board-certified dermatologist with special interest in dermatologic conditions that result from cancer treatments, with particular focus on the recognition and management of side effects affecting the skin, hair, and nails of cancer patients and survivors. He founded the SERIES (Skin and Eye Reactions to Inhibitors of EGFR and kinaseS) Clinic, which is an interdisciplinary effort comprising patient care, education, and research.
Dr Lacouture is also Co-chair of the Skin Toxicity Study Group of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer, an international organization devoted to the understanding of side effects in cancer patients.

Lu Q Le, MD, PhD Dr Le received his medical and doctoral degrees from the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his residency training in Dermatology and a postdoctoral fellowship in Cancer Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. His research focuses on identifying the cellular origin of tumorigenesis and elucidating the role of the tumor microenvironment in cancer development. His laboratory utilizes neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) - a common tumor-predisposition human genetic disorder - as a model to address these two fundamental issues in cancer biology, as well as to study cutaneous nervous system development and regeneration. He is currently Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Developmental Biology at UTSW medical school.

Dr. Lyle is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and a consultant for several Boston area institutions. He received his medical and graduate degrees from the University of Chicago. He trained in pathology at the University of Pennsylvania Hospitals, completing his residency in anatomic pathology and a fellowship in surgical pathology. He then completed the Harvard combined dermatopathology fellowship training at the Harvard-affiliated hospitals; Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital.

In addition to practicing diagnostic dermatopathology, Dr. Lyle maintains an active NIH-funded research lab studying adult skin stem cells and skin cancer stem cells. Dr. Simpson was an outstanding physician in our Dermatology Residency program, and we are delighted he has chosen to remain as a faculty member. Dr. Simpson received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley.

In the clinic, Dr. Simpson specializes in all aspects of general dermatology such as atopic dermatitis (eczema), contact dermatitis, psoriasis and skin cancer.

He is also actively involved in clinical research studying new approaches for eczema treatment and prevention. He has recently received a grant from the National Eczema Association to study the role of the skin barrier in initiating atopic dermatitis.

Hema Sundaram, MD, FAAD, is a board-certified dermatologist and the founder and director of her cosmetic surgery practice in suburban Washington, DC. Her training includes masters and medical degrees from the University of Cambridge, UK, a dermatology residency at the University of Chicago, post-doctoral research in molecular biology, and a post-residency medical staff research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Sundaram's practice is noted for its regular donations to charitable and patient support organizations.

She maintains an active involvement in medical research and education, serving as a Principal Investigator for FDA studies and as a chair or steering faculty for CME initiatives. Gil Yosipovitch, MD

Gil Yosipovitch, MD Dr. Yosipovitch is a Professor of Dermatology, Neurobiology & Anatomy, and Regenerative Medicine at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He has completed both internal medicine and dermatology residencies. He founded in 2005 and is the current president of the International Forum for the Study of Itch (IFSI), which is a multidisciplinary international association of clinical practitioners, researchers, and scientists dedicated to improving understanding and treatment of itch. Dr Yosipovitch's major clinical interests are the cutaneous manifestations of systemic diseases and pruritus. His current research activities focus on the neurophysiology of itch, the pharmacology of anti- pruritics and the evaluation of skin physiology using skin bioengineering techniques. He recently edited a book, Itch Basic Mechanisms and Treatment, published in 2004.

Dr. Zachary takes on challenging skin cancer cases where he utilizes Mohs micrographic surgery and subsequent repair with dermatoplastic reconstructive surgery.
