The DermQuest Image Library is a collection of images aimed at meeting the teaching and diagnostic needs and interests of dermatologists and residents in dermatology. The library has been shaped by contributions from dermatologists around the globe. Joseph Bikowski, MD, provided the majority of the images in DermQuest.
Dr. Bikowski began taking slides of skin diseases in 1975 as a first-year dermatology resident at Ohio State University with the intention of using them to teach medical students. Since then he has taken over 75,000 clinical images of skin diseases, resulting in one of the largest private collections of dermatologic images in the world. A major portion of his library of clinical slides is available on DermQuest.
All images are contained within patient cases. A patient case is a group of images categorized by patient. The same patient case can appear in many searches.
You can browse images in the Library by the following criteria:
You can then refine the images by any of the other criteria to find ones that are more appropriate to your needs.
As an alternative to browsing the Image Library, you can use the search function to find images matching specific keywords.
The Advanced Search allows you to refine your search results by Anatomical Location, Age Group, Dark Skin, Pregnancy and Immunosupression.
Whether browsing or searching the Image Library, when relevant images are found you will see a list of small, or thumbnail, images, each one being the first image in a patient case. You can scroll through the thumbnails for each case by using the orange left and right arrows, or you can open the large image page by clicking on a thumbnail. The large image page will show the image and its related information, as well as thumbnails of the other images in that case.

All images contained in the patient dossiers in the Image Library can be printed by clicking the "Print image and patient details" link beneath the image.
